2018 Fabric City Support Group

Hello and Welcome to the Support Group!  This is a continuation of the UFO group from 2017, but with a focus on finishing any and all projects—big or small, old or new!

To join:

Search for Fabric City Support Group on Facebook.  Request to become a member.

Ground rules:

    1.   It is about encouraging, supporting, being kind and having fun.  If your posts and comments do not support these goals then you will be removed.
    2.  This group is for sewing, not for selling.
    3.  We do look at the requests to join the group, and if there is not sewing or something that could link you to the store, we will most likely decline the request.
    4.  WE CAN CHANGE OUR MINDS AT ANY TIME.  Yep.  If something is not working or coming together like we want, we will try something different.
    5.  Please note that most of the managing and posting for this group is not done in the store, and we all have other jobs.  We do our best, but sometimes we are late to post or miss something.  Please let us know if something needs to be updated or fixed.
    6.  You must be on Facebook…Sorry…we don’t have any other way to make this work.
    7.  If you want to participate, then we want you to as well.  We are here to help.  If you can’t find the group, not sure about how to do albums… whatever is holding you back… please let us know and we will help!

For those loyal customers who wish to participate but are not local, please DO!  We would love to see what you are making.  If you want to use any coupon you may have earned while participating in this group, but are not going to make it to the store, please call to make arrangements.  You’ll  be responsible for all shipping costs.

Here are a few of the things we will be doing:

1.  All finished projects for the month can be posted into an album on Facebook.  We will draw for FREE fabric from all of the finished projects each month.  Please post only 1 photo of each project in the album.  We love to see the back, a photo of the recipient, and all of the other details, BUT that is best done on the group wall.  The Sewing Center staff and instructors can enter as well.  If they are drawn, an additional winner will be drawn as well.  We will use a tiered system for drawing:

1-25 finished projects:  1 winner of 2 yards
25-50 finished projects:  2 winners of 2 yards
50 and up finished projects:  3 winners of 2 yards

2.  Monthly challenge.  Each month will have a theme, and if you complete a project that fits the theme and post a photo of the project in the correct Facebook album, you will receive a coupon for $10 off a $30 purchase. The coupons are good until the 15th of the following month.  Example:  Post in challenge folder for January; receive a coupon valid from Feb. 5th through March 15th.  We will do our best to have the list of coupon recipients up and at the till by the 5th of the month.  (Please note this is a manual process, and sometimes life interferes.)

3.  Sew alongs.  Every so often we will feature a product/project in group!  Sew Along for prizes!

4.  Sewing parties!  We are planning 4… No dates are set yet, but they will be published at least 1 month ahead of time.

5.  Secret sales.  It might be a heads up on one happening at the store, an extra day to shop a sale, or a special sale just for this group.  There will not be a schedule for this, but you’ll learn about these through Facebook posts.

Monthly Challenge Themes

These are meant to be guidelines…we all are creative people!  Let’s see it!  These can be new or old projects, but please just post 1 project and 1 photo per challenge.  Additional finished projects should be posted in the album for the month.

January:  Clean Slate.  Organize; put away all of the fabulous gifts you received from Fabric City; tame the stash (ok…pet); make a UFO/project list or plan; organize your finished projects.  What do you need for a successful 2018 Sewing Year?

February:  Ready for Bed.  Finish a bed quilt, PJ pants, pillowcases, a stuffed animal, a bed runner…

March:  Button it up.  Try a garment with a button closure, add embellishment, or mend.  Maybe just “button up” a big project.

April:  Charity.  Make something for a group you support.  Donate materials to a group you support.  We will also talk about options for sewing for charity and have a charity sew along.

May:  STRETCH.  Sew with a knit.  Hit a big goal.  Make a project bigger.  Learn a new skill…

June:  It’s in the BAG.  Project bag, purse, a kit that came in a bag…

July:  On the Road.  Travel themed project, kit or fabric you picked up on vacation, a project you like to take with you…

August:  Enjoying the process.  We spend most of our time in the middle of a project.  Show us your long-term project.  Start a long-term project.  Show us the step you enjoy most.

September:   Scrap attack!  Scrappy goodness featured here!

October:  COZY.  Flannel, Cuddle/minky, slippers, scarves.  Time to get ready for winter!

November:  Frosty and FaB1  Sparkley, wintery, Christmasy fun!  Snowman, snowflakes, and all wintry finishes.

December:  Put a bow on it.  Sew a gift, make reusable wrapping paper, use scraps to make bows…
